WWE Confirm SummerSlam Main Event In Raw Opening Segment

John Cena opened this week’s edition of WWE Raw to confirm that he will challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam.

John Cena & Roman Reigns

To the surprise of nobody but the excitement of many, the main event for SummerSlam was confirmed at the top of the programme on the July 19th edition of WWE Raw.

John Cena will challenge WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns on Saturday August 21st.

Cena opened Raw the night after his hugely well received return to the company in the aftermath of the main event of Money In The Bank that saw Reigns defend his title against Edge.

The genuinely titanic match will see Cena take part in his first in-ring match since January 2019 and he will attempt to snare a record equalling 17th World Championship.

For his part, the match will come almost a year to the day after Reigns won the Universal Championship in a triple threat match at Payback against The Fiend and Braun Strowman.

With the strength of Reign’s heel character work since winning the title, it is a very safe bet that the event at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will see Cena garner his most positive crowd reaction in over 15 years.

As well as Cena’s return, SummerSlam sees the king-awaited return of Hooked On Wrestling live viewing parties in eight cities across the UK. You can be a part of what will be an incredible atmosphere with tickets on sale right now. Click here to see locations, availability and to purchase.
