Women’s Title Match Added To February’s NXT TakeOver

The first match has been announced by WWE for February’s NXT TakeOver. It will see Io Shirai defend her Women’s Championship.

The first match has been announced for NXT’s next TakeOver event taking place on Sunday February 14th.

In a match revealed during an interview with Toni Storm on Comicbook.com, it was confirmed that NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai will defend her gold in a triple threat match against Storm and Mercedes Martinez.

Having won the belt in another triple threat match against Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley at TakeOver: In Your House in June 2020, Shirai has seen off all comers as she has established herself as top dog in NXT’s fantastic women’s division.

Both of her February challengers have made relatively recent returns back to the back and gold brand. Storm had been inactive since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and Martinez had spent time on the WWE main roster with an ill-fated stint as part of the half-baked RETRIBUTION faction.

With the next TakeOver taking place on Valentine’s Day, there will be no love lost between the three women in this match.

With Pete Dunne seemingly emerging as the next challenger for Finn Balor’s NXT Championship, the first TakeOver of 2021 is already shaping up as a banger, just as we would expect.
