WALTER, the longest reigning NXT UK Champion is set to return to the BT Sport Studios next week to make a special statement.
It seems that statement is likely to be that he will defend his championship at April’s TakeOver event against former NXT Champion Tomasso Ciampa.
This week on NXT, Ciampa and his partner Timothy Thatcher came into the orbit of Imperium members Alexander Wolfe, Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel.
The jist of their interaction is that the European stable wanted Thatcher to join them, or in fact, rejoin.
As some observers will know, Imperium’s roots actually stem from the Ringkampf stable. A group that was mainly active in Germany’s wXw promotion that consisted of WALTER, Barthel (Axel Dieter Jr. as he was known then), Christian Michael Jakobi and Thatcher.
Later in the show, Ciampa confronted his partner to confirm he had no intention of teaming with Imperium and in fact he would be interested in a shot at ‘The General’ and his NXT UK Championship.
With WALTER’s statement due next week, this match is expected to come together quickly.
The championship itself, though primarily defended on UK soil, has actually only ever changed hands on US based TakeOver events.
In 2017, at TakeOver: Chicago, Pete Dunne snared the title with a victory over the inaugural champion, Tyler Bate.
In April 2019, WALTER took the title from Dunne at NXT TakeOver: New York.
NXT TakeOver: Stand And Deliver is set to take place over two nights, as announced by NXT General Manager this week.
Night 1 on Wednesday April 7th will air on the USA Network with night 2 airing the next day on Peacock in the US and WWE Network elsewhere.
