The final triple-threat qualifier for the NXT TakeOver XXX North American Title ladder match took place last night.

The match was announced to include KUSHIDA, Cameron Grimes and a mystery third participant.

We found out that the third man was former North American champion Velveteen Dream, who made his first appearance since losing to Adam Cole in the backlot brawl at NXT Takeover: In Your House back one June.

As always with Dream, his return was dripping in symbolism. On his return, gone were the more elaborate tights he was worn in recent years. Instead he was wearing the same purple tights he wore when he he made his NXT debut back in 2017.

Dream was unsuccessful on his return. The match ended when Cameron Grimes stole the win by throwing Dream to the outside and pinning an already prone KUSHIDA to take the third spot in the ladder match alongside Bronson Reed and Damian Priest.

After the match, Dream seemed to lose his cool and viciously attacked KUSHIDA. The assault only ended when Finn Balor hit the ring to confront Dream.

On account of him not being the superstar to take the fall in this match, Dream will face Balor next week with a shot in the ladder match up for grabs. Ridge Holland will meet Johnny Gargano with the same prize on offer.
