We reported this week that Extreme Rules had been given the subtitle ‘The Horror Show’ and on SmackDown last night, it was confirmed why.
As expected, match between Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt at the PPV is the next match to be given the ‘cinematic’ treatment.
Many had expected the old House Of Horrors name to be used again but instead the two will face each other in a Wyatt Swamp Fight.
Somewhat surprisingly, the match has been announced as a non-title bout so Strowman’s Universal Championship will not be up for grabs.
With Wyatt reverting to the original version of the gimmick for this feud, setting this match in such a location makes perfect sense.
We must proceed with caution though. Matches taking place on Wyatt’s home turf do not have a good track record in terms of quality.
The aforementioned House Of Horrors match against Randy Orton was one of several low points in the worst feud of 2017.
The Wyatt Compound battle in 2016 between The Wyatt Family & The New Day was slightly better. It was WWE’s attempt to latch on to the then trend-setting ‘Broken Universe’ mini-movies produced by Impact Wrestling.
It was a decent brawl but spectacularly missed the point of what made Matt Hardy’s segments such campy entertainment.
‘WWE Extreme Rules: The Horror Show’t takes place on Sunday July 19th. The current card is as follows:
– Wyatt Swamp Fight: Braun Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt
– WWE Championship: Drew McIntyre vs. Dolph Ziggler
– Raw Women’s Championship: Asuka vs. Sasha Banks
SmackDown Women’s Championship: Bayley vs. Nikki Cross
