One of the true positives from the increased competition between WWE and AEW has been the revival of the practise in announcing significant portions of weekly TV show cards a week or even more in advance.
It truly has helped to improve the feeling of continuity and reduce the feeling that shows are being booked on the hoof hours before they are taped.
Well, maybe not with Raw. But we can’t have everything can we?
Next week’s AEW Dynamite is no exception with a superb slate of matches announced for what the company have dubbed ‘Tag Team Appreciation Night’
For regular Dynamite viewers, you will remember that hosting this tag team night was one of the conditions set out by FTR before they signed their AEW contracts last week.
The highest profile match on the card is probably Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy in what is being dubbed a ‘$7000 Obligation Match’ with the loser picking up the bill for Jericho’s suit that Cassidy covered in orange juice last week. This match was hyped in hugely effective fashion on Dynamite this week with their ‘Super Wednesday Debate’ hosted by an extra special guest.
The first of two title matches announced so far sees Cody defend his TNT Championship against So-Cal Uncensored’s Scorpio Sky.
Sky has been putting together an impressive streak of wins on AEW Dark recently and as he stated in a terrific promo on this week’s Dark, he remains the only man other than Jon Moxley to pin ‘The Demo God’ Chris Jericho.
The AEW Tag Team Championship will also be on the line on Tag Team Appreciation Night, naturally, as Kenny Omega and Hangman Page face new title challengers in the form of Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus).
The final match announced is another tag team encounter as The Young Bucks will face Evil Uno and Stu Grayson of The Dark Order.
For tag team nostalgia fans it has been announced that both The Rock and Roll Express (Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson) and The Brain Busters (Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard) will come together in the ring. Talk about tag team royalty!
In addition, it has been announced that FTR will be hosting the whole shebang so expect them to insist on tag ropes and mandatory counts after making the tag. None of this free for all that The Elite call tag team wrestling!
Dynamite airs Wednesday night on TNT in the USA and can be seen worldwide on FITE.
