Rumour: Japanese Wrestling Legend Set To Join NXT UK?

One of the most prominent names in Japanese female wrestling could be set to join NXT UK in a dual talent/trainer role according to reports from Japan.

Meiko Satomura

Reports from Tokyo Sports in Japan suggest that one of Japanese wrestling’s most high profile female names, Meiko Satomura, is set for a move to England to join NXT UK as a talent and development coach.

Despite issuing a denial of the rumour, the 40-year old veteran and Sendai Girls promotion co-owner suggested she is looking to move on to a ‘new stage’ in her career.

Satomura has a storied wrestling history on both sides of the world. She made appearances as a teenager for WCW in 1996-97 before going on to form Sendai Girls in 2006.

More recently, she made it to the semi-finals of the second Mae Young Classic tournament in 2018, losting to eventual winner Toni Storm.

In addition, her Sendai Girls team comprised of herself, Cassandra Miyagi and Dash Chisako won the 2016 CHIKARA ‘King of Trios’ tournament.

If these reports are accurate, Satomura will be a stellar addition to WWE’s UK promotion and a huge influence on talent in that system looking to improve their skill set.
