Rhea Ripley, along with those who have come through the WWE Performance Centre, had a wealth of talent on hand to help guide the early stages of her career.
In a recent interview with Wide World of Sports in Australia, she recounted how it was “insane” walking in to work with the likes of Triple H and Shawn Michaels on hand for advice.
She recounted a story of Michaels coming to her to offer advice in the early years.
I remember Shawn Michaels just walking around, and he came over to me and started telling me things, and he’s like ‘you don’t have to listen to me, I’m just an old man’
Her response was as you’d expect from many people – “you’re not just an old man, you’re Shawn Michaels! You’re one of the best. Of course I’m going to listen to you!”
The other man of the duo – Triple H – was also the first wrestler Ripley saw to inspire her to become a wrestler, when she saw a clip of him wrestling Ric Flair, commenting that “at the time, this was the best thing I had ever seen”.
Former NXT and NXT UK Women’s Champion Ripley also used the interview as an opportunity to discuss how quickly her career has moved since she debuted back in 2017.
Winning the NXT UK Women’s Championship was insane and I was so proud of myself. I was so humbled everyone trusted me with the massive responsibility. Then going into Royal Rumble, Survivor Series, War Games, becoming the NXT Women’s Champion and beating someone that was claimed to be unbeatable in Shayna Baszler – that was absolutely insane.
