Report: Update On Excalibur’s AEW Future

AEW play-by-play announcer Excalibur has been off air for the past two weeks. This week’s Wrestling Observer offers an update as to when we may see him back.

AEW’s lead play-by-play announced Excalibur has not been seen on Dynamite for the past two weeks.

Whilst there is no official word on his absence, reports suggest that it is related to a video that has recently done the rounds on social media that showed Excalibur using a racial slur at a PWG event some years ago.

For the sake of clarity, it is important to stress that the slur in question was said in character as part of the show, for what it’s worth.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer, Dave Meltzer has offered an update on Excalibur’s status. He writes:

“Regarding Excalibur, he will be back. Nobody has officially said anything but we were told he was flying to Jacksonville for next week’s television and unless things change would be back on the first show taped that airs on 8/12. His name hasn’t been mentioned on either Dynamite or Dark and Taz was in his spot on both shows.”

It remains to be seen if there will be any further action taken regarding this, but it sounds like the announcer will be back at the commentary desk for next week’s episode of Dynamite.

Update: Meltzer has now said this return has been pushed back to August 26th.
