Drew McIntyre versus Kofi Kingston in a Number One Contender’s Match has been confirmed for the May 31st episode of Raw. The winner will face Bobby Lashley for the WWE Championship at the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view.
This is a rematch of their bout on last night’s Raw, which was ruled a No Contest when Bobby Lashley and MVP, who were sat ringside, attacked both superstars. Predictably of WWE’s booking, Lashley was inadvertently taken out by the participants, which provoked the champion’s assault. The two contenders forced the champion into retreat, however, with Trouble in Paradise followed by a Claymore Kick.
WWE Official Adam Pearce granted the two contenders their rematch, adding the following stipulation to ensure a clean finish:
Lashley and McIntyre have feuded since February, with the champion keen to move on from the Scottish Warrior. The All Mighty champion has twice retained against McIntyre. The first was at WrestleMania in singles competition, then in a triple-threat match, also involving Braun Strowman, at WrestleMania Backlash. McIntyre interfered in the main event between Lashley and Kingston on the May 17th episode of Raw, assisting Kofi’s shock pinfall victory over the champion.
Elsewhere, Shayna Baszler has challenged Reginald to a singles match next week. Nonetheless, as of this writing, no further matches have been confirmed the upcoming episode of Raw.
