NXT General Manager has announced that the new NXT Tag Team Champions will be decided by means of a triple threat match on the first night of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.
It was announced earlier this week that champions Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan would be forced to vacate the title after Burch suffered a separated shoulder in a match last week against Finn Balor and Karrion Kross. The injury is likely to sideline the British grappler for upwards of six months.
The teams set to battle for the title next month are The Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake and Zack Gibson), MSK (Wes Lee and Nash Carter) and Legado del Fantasma (Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde).
None of the three have previously held tag team gold on the NXT main roster but the Grizzled Young Veterans are former NXT UK Tag Team Champions and MSK as the most recent winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
Night one of TakeOver will air on USA Network in the US and BT Sport in the UK in the usual NXT weekly timeslot for that week. The night will be headlined by Raquel Gonzalez challenging Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s Championship.
