New Matches Announced For AEW: New Year’s Smash – Two More Title Matches Confirmed

AEW New Year’s Evil will take place over two nights starting on Wednesday December 30th. A whole host of matches have now been announced for the events.

Following events on last night’s AEW Dynamite, the card for AEW: New Year’s Smash is starting to take shape. And it looks a humdinger!

Similar to Fyter Fest in the summer, Smash will take place over two nights. The first part will take place next week on Wednesday December 30th, with the second part the following week on January 6th, head to head with NXT New Year’s Evil.

A whole slew of new matches were announced this week including two new title matches.

On night one next week, Hikaru Shida will defend her AEW Women’s Championship against Abadon. On night two, Brian Cage will challenge Darby Allin for the TNT Championship.

Kenny Omega’s first AEW World Championship defence has already been announced. He will face Ray Fenix next week on the same show that Jon Moxley will make his return.

On night two, AEW Vice President Cody Rhodes will face Matt Sydal in a match announced by Rhodes on Twitter with an assist from a tweet by Hooked On Wrestling!

Both parts of New Year’s Smash will be available in the UK on Fite and ITV Player.

Part One:

  • AEW World Championship: Kenny Omega vs. Ray Fenix
  • AEW Women’s Championship: Hikaru Shida vs. Abadon
  • Wardlow vs. Jake Hager

Part Two:

  • TNT Championship: Darby Allin vs. Brian Cage
  • Cody Rhodes vs. Matt Sydal
  • Jurassic Express vs. FTR
