As announced on last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, ‘The Baddest Man On The Planet’ is soon to make his pro-wrestling return on Saturday May 23rd at AEW’s Double Or Nothing 2 PPV.

Tyson’s role will be to present the brand new TNT Championship to the winner of the championship tournament final in what is looking more and more like the main event of the PPV. In that match, Cody will face off against AEW newcomer ‘The Murderhawk Monster’ Lance Archer.

The timing, while unlikely to be a case of dumb luck, is extremely fortuitous.

Tyson’s name has been in the news recently, with a video of him sparring doing the rounds and man himself hinting he would like to return to the ring for charity exhibition bouts at the age of 53.

Of course, Iron Mike is no stranger to the wrestling ring himself. The WWE Hall of Famer’s most famous connection with wrestling is his storyline with the then-WWF in 1998.

Midway through a worldwide boxing ban, given to him for having a little nibble of Evander Holyfield’s ear, Tyson and ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin engaged in a legendary on-screen spat which culminated at WrestleMania 14.

There, the two celebrated together after Austin defeated Shawn Michaels to win his first World championship, with Tyson knocking out The Heartbreak Kid with a punch post-match.

Report: "Not Anything Planned Or Expected" For Brock Lesnar To Appear At WWE SummerSlam

It was this alliance between Tyson and Vince McMahon’s group that saw business shoot into the stratosphere after the lows of the mid 90s. Although already well on their way to recovery, it was the Tyson involvement (‘Tyson and Austin! Tyson and Austin! Tyson and Austin!) that all parties credit with being the catalyst that put WWE back ahead of WCW in the ‘Monday Night Wars’ and they never looked back.

Double Or Nothing 2 was originally scheduled to take place in Las Vegas and one must wonder if this alliance was planned while that was still the plan? After all, who is more associated with the Vegas fight scene than Tyson?

The former (And soon to be again?) boxer was a guest of the Jacksonville Jaguars (The NFL team owned by AEW owners, the Khan family) and appeared on the sidelines, at a game against the Tennessee Titans in September last year, which at least hints that there may be some prior familiarity between the parties.

There had been recently been a public offer from Court Bauer for Tyson to work with MLW on a future PPV event but for now, Tyson’s wrestling allegiance is elsewhere.
