In the main event of the June 10th edition of NXT UK, Meiko Satomura defeated Kay Lee Ray to win the NXT UK Women’s Championship. She becomes the fourth woman to hold the title, with Rhea Ripley and Toni Storm among the former champions.
Satomura, who competed in the 2018 Mae Young Classic, debuted on NXT UK in February. After signing for WWE in October 2020, she recently revealed that she will be re-locating to live in the United Kingdom from late June. A 26-year veteran, The Final Boss can add the NXT UK Women’s Championship to her impressive list of accomplishments, which includes championships in Progress and Stardom.
Kay Lee Ray, the self-proclaimed “Forever Champion”, held the title for a record 649 days. The Scottish superstar won the gold from Toni Storm at Takeover: Cardiff in August 2019. Her reign included successful defenses against Piper Niven and Jinny. She even defeated Meiko Satomura herself, who unsuccessfully challenged for the title in March. The Japanese superstar emerged victorious on this occasion, however. Satomura won by pinfall after hitting her finishing maneuver, Scorpio Rising.
