Following his WWE Title victory over Randy Orton at Clash Of Champions, Drew McIntyre appeared on Raw to issue an open challenge in the main event for his championship.
The only caveat is that the challenger had to be someone who had not previously had an opportunity to face him for the belt.
In the main event of the evening, the challenge was answered by none other than the returning Robert Roode!
Roode had been absent from WWE television since March. With international travel halted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Roode was previously unable to travel to WWE’s tapings in Florida from his home near Toronto, Canada.
After being introduced by his partner Dolph Ziggler, Roode was defeated by McIntyre in the night’s main event.
With the draft coming up, it will be interesting to see whether Roode stays on Raw or makes a move back to SmackDown.
Prior to his absence he was somewhat lost in the shuffle. Here’s hoping this enforced break allows a refresh of his character and a renewed purpose on TV.
