The main event of Impact Wrestling’s historic Rebellion 2021 PPV saw Impact champion Rich Swann and All Elite Wrestling World Champion Kenny Omega face off in a champion vs. champion match with both titles on the line.
The match was a 23-minute masterclass that saw Omega take the victory in a surprising clean match.
With The Good Brothers and AEW president Tony Khan at ringside representing Omega and Willie Mack, Eddie Edwards and Scott D’Amore seconding Swann, the stage was set for a bout laden with interference. Add to this the presence of AEW referee Aubrey Edwards at ringside as a second official and the most surprising part of the match was that none of those individuals factored into the finish. Instead, Omega ended the bout by hitting the One Winged Angel on Swann to take the Impact star’s title.
The result leaves Omega living up to his belt collector moniker with four belts in his possession. As well as the Impact title, this win saw him take possession of the TNA Championship to add to the AEW title and the AAA Mega Championship he also holds.
With Impact Wrestling now without a world champion, it remains to be seen what the consequences for Swann and the other storylines in the promotion will be. The fallout will begin on Thursday’s episode of Impact on AXS.
