After a gap of almost a year, Jon Moxley finally put his IWGP United States Championship on the line on this wee’s ‘NJPW Strong’ and scored a brutal victory over number one contender, KENTA.

Due to pandemic related travel restrictions, Moxley had been unable to defend the belt since February 9th 2020 when he defeated Minoru Suzuki, little over a month from winning it for the second time Lance Archer at Wrestle Kingdom 14.

The match saw both men resort to using the likes of tables and the number one contender briefcase to punish each other in a match that was as hard-hitting as promised.

The finish saw Mox hit his trademark Death Rider on KENTA to score the pin.

The match had seen KENTA make a shock appearance on AEW Dynamite to build to this encounter as well as develop the ongoing ‘Forbidden Gate’ storyline that is brewing amongst AEW, NJPW and Impact Wrestling.

Moxley’s next high profile encounter will come next weekend at AEW Revolution on Sunday March 7th when he will face Kenny Omega in an Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch for the AEW World Championship.
