Last Friday’s SmackDown saw the finals of the Intercontinental Championship tournament finalised. It was a convoluted path that included a car accident, a DUI arrest, a battle royal and even a momentary reunion of The Bar but eventually it was confirmed that AJ Styles will face Daniel Bryan for the vacant title.
We also found out that the final itself will take place on Friday June 12th on that week’s episode of SmackDown.
According to a report by Wrestlingnews.co, the match itself was actually taped before it was confirmed on television.
It reportedly took place on the May 26th block of tapings at the WWE Performance Center and was said to be an ‘unbelievable’ match. Which shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.
It’s said that it was so good that the tired and jaded crew of NXT wrestlers acting as a de-facto crowd were hugely pumped up and into the match as fans despite their day long stint on their feet.
We are counting down the days….
