The June 1st edition of NXT had a blockbuster return during the opening match as Adam Cole made his presence felt in a major way after over a month away from our screens.
The return took place during the opening match which pitted Kyle O’Reilly, Pete Dunne and Johnny Gargano against one another in a triple threat match to determine the challenger for Karrion Kross’ NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver: In Your House on Sunday June 13th.
During the match, Cole hit the ring and attacked all three men to the extent that the match was deemed a no contest, much to the chagrin of General Manager William Regal.
Later in the show, Cole angrily demanded of Regal that he be given the championship opportunity he felt he deserved. The former Undisputed Era member went so far as to confront Kross in the ring to state his claim.
After the champion gave his approval to the idea, Regal declared that the title would be defended in a Fatal Five Way match between Kross, Cole and the three contenders who took part in the aborted triple threat earlier in the show.
This was Cole’s first time in an NXT ring since he was taken out of the arena on a stretcher following his Unsanctioned Match loss to Kyle O’Reilly at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two on April 8th.
