It seems that the top brass in WWE are still holding out strong hope that Ronda Rousey will make her return someday soon.
Earlier this year, former Raw Women’s champion Rousey angered a large portion of the WWE fanbase when she declared she was through with dedicating her entire life to a bunch of ‘f*****g ungrateful fans’.
This drew the ire of many members of WWE’s female roster including Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax and Lana.
However, as much as these comments caused widespread fan anger, there was seemingly just as big a common voice that put this down to Ronda working the crowd and preparing for her return by ensuring she was a hated anti-wrestling heel from day one.
In an interview with TMZ, WWE executive Paul ‘HHH’ Levesque chimed in on Ronda’s comments and stated unambiguously:
“Of course, we want her. Of course, we do!”
Fairly definitive then. And rightly so. Ronda Rousey was the touch paper that lit the rocket that is the WWE’s women’s division.
The mainstream attention and combat sports credibility she brought into the company were pivotal in ensuring the now-five-year-long ‘Women’s Revolution’ was in a position whereby Rousey, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair could headline WrestleMania without that feeling like shoehorning.
Her year long run in WWE certainly brought eyeballs and respect to a division that had all the building blocks in place to be a genuinely key part of WWE programming.
It certainly seems that whatever the intention of her previous comments, there is an open door for her in WWE once she decides it is a priority for her. HHH went on to say about whether they would welcome her back:
“I think Ronda’s in a place in her personal life where she’s figuring some things out but, the thing with Ronda is you never know what she is saying.
“Is she attacking the business really or is she attacking the business because she knows that’s what will light up the fans that love the business?
“We still have a great relationship on everything [with Ronda] and when she is ready, absolutely.”
