WWE’s annual Money In The Bank PPV will take place on Sunday 18th July and as well as confirming the first batch of entrants in the MITB ladder matches on Raw, we also found out what the first two title bouts at the event will be.
The event, which will take place at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas will be the first WWE show since March 2020 to take place in front of a capacity crowd and will be headlined by a WWE Championship match between Bobby Lashley and Kofi Kingston.
Whilst many expected this match to take place at last Sunday’s Hell In A Cell, instead Lashley took victory over Drew McIntyre in the cell and the rivalry was reignited this week on Raw with Kingston demanding a long overdue opportunity.
The match was agreed whilst also confirming that the Raw main event would see The All Mighty face Kingston’s partner Xavier Woods inside the Hell In A Cell. As expected, Lashley picked up the victory and brutalised Woods after the match to increase the personal animosity between champion and challenger. Given the close bond between the two New Day brothers, it was a very effective segment, deliberately patterned on the Ivan Drago vs. Apollo Creed match in the first act of Rocky IV.
The second title match will be a rematch from Hell In A Cell and will see Rhea Ripley once again defend the Raw Women’s Championship against Charlotte Flair. Many fans believed that the two actually enacted a double turn at the PPV and that was confirmed on Raw with Ripley revelling in the fact she saved her title the night prior by getting herself deliberately disqualified. This places Flair firmly back in the babyface camp. This clarity will benefit the feud which has suffered so far with fans being unsure who they were being directed to root for.
