As advertised earlier this week, WWE confirmed the entrance numbers of three entrants in today’s Royal Rumble matches live on WWE Backstage last night.
In a blockbuster move, it was announced that Randy Orton would enter at number one in the men’s Royal Rumble. Who drew number two? Well if you’ve been watching wrestling got more than five minutes, we think you know him…
Of course, the number two entrant will be Edge. The WWE Hall of Famer made his comeback after nine years on the shelf in last year’s Royal Rumble. He clashed with Orton in that match, ultimately eliminating his former Rated RKO partner.
This led to an intense rivalry that took in a WrestleMania Falls Count Anywhere and the so called ‘Greatest Wrestling Match Of All Time’ at Backlash.
It was injuries sustained in that match that put Edge back on the injured list, until today.
The pair will renew their rivalry with the added spice of The Fiend lurking in the background, surely ready to return to seek his own revenge on Orton for ‘burning him alive’ at the TLC PPV in December.
Also on Backstage, WWE presented a match between Natalya and Tamina with the coveted number 30 entry spot on the line for the women’s Rumble.
To the surprise of nobody, Natalya won that match and will now be the final entrant of the night.
WWE Backstage made its return to Fox Sports last night as a one off pre-Rumble special. It was hosted by Paige, Booker T and Renee Young with full baby bump blossoming. The three were live in the studio rather than hosting via streaming link.
