Way back in 2014, when Corona was just a beer, it was announced that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson had signed on to play the DC Comics villain/occasional hero Black Adam. Seven short years later and it seems we’re finally going to see Johnson in the role.
Originally Black Adam was going to be in the movie ‘Shazam’ with talks of popping up in ‘Aquaman’ mentioned, but it now appears his first time on screen will be in a film all of his own. With the Snyder cut of Justice League dropping just a few days back it seems like Johnson has chosen the perfect moment to show DC fans a peek of what’s coming.
“We are approximately three weeks away from shooting Black Adam and I can’t believe we are at the finish line with this thing,” Johnson said on Instagram. “What a journey it has been. Actually I can believe it considering how hard we’ve worked over the years.”
“I wanted to show you the opening page to my script, which I look at every time I open this. I’ve memorized these words for years and years and years now. But it gives you guys an example of who Black Adam is, and who Black Adam is to the world of the DC universe. But also, I think, who Black Adam is to the world of superhero universes period, and that is the DC Universe but that also includes the Marvel superhero universe too. I’m not saying there’s gonna be a mashup, what I am saying is it doesn’t matter to me, it doesn’t matter to Black Adam, you put ‘em all on notice – whether they’re part of the Marvel universe or the DC universe, they’re all on notice now.”
Alongside Black Adam we’ll see the collective known as the Justice Society of America with Atom Smasher played by Noah Centineo, Hawkman played Aldis Hodge, and Quintessa Swindell will be in the role of Cyclone.
We’re guessing that the Rock probably won’t need any muscles building into his superhero costume.
