The longest title reign in AEW history came to an end at Double Or Nothing 2021 when Dr. Britt Baker defeated Hikaru Shida to claim the AEW Women’s World Championship.
Shida’s 372 day reign began at last year’s Double Or Nothing event and was expectedly ended in a high octane 17 minute encounter.
Baker has long been seen as the heir apparent for the title following a career resurgence over the last year. She becomes just the fourth Women’s Champion in company history.
Although a heel character, Baker’s win was met with a huge reaction by the life crowd who have grown to appreciate the effort she has made in moving the women’s division forward in AEW. Following her victory she was greeted on the ramp by real life friend Tony Schiavone who embraced the new champion.
