WWE is bringing back the Great American Bash name for the next two editions of NXT, commencing July 1 and 8.

The concept was originally one of WCW’s top PPV events and a creation of the late, great ‘American Dream’ Dusty Rhodes – leading to some on social media calling for WWE to send some royalties the way of Dusty’s family.

Among those was Rhodes’ own daughter, Teil:

However, when brought into the discussion, AEW TNT champion Cody insisted the situation wasn’t too much of a bee in his bonnet.

“Although the event means a lot to my sister and I, I don’t own the intellectual property ain’t holding much of a grudge over it”, he said on Twitter.

It may be fair to assume that the GAB name being used to directly oppose All Elite’s own two-episode Fyter Fest special on the very same dates is more of an issue to Cody and company.

And it’s advantage NXT heading into the next fortnight of specials: WWE’s third brand beat Dynamite for the first time in April this week, in what was a pretty bad week for the ratings on TNT.
