The true holder of the Raw Women’s Championship has been up in the air since last week’s WWE Extreme Rules event.
At the show, Sasha Banks pinned defending champion Asuka, with the pinfall counted by her ally Bayley rather than by the appointed referee.
As a result of the controversy, none other than Stephanie McMahon stepped in to the situation on last week’s Raw and declared a rematch for the two for this week with the stipulation that the title could change hands on a count-out or a disqualification.
Would you believe it, that special stipulation came into play during the match! Who would have thought it?
As Asuka and Banks did battle, the cameras showed Bayley viciously assaulting the champion’s Kabuki Warriors partner, Kairi Sane (who officially said her WWE goodbyes after the show). As a result, Asuka went to help her friend, was counted out and Sasha Banks was declared the new(ish) champion.
Bayley and Banks now officially hold all the gold in the main roster’s women’s division. The ‘double champ-champs’ have even more to crow about and potentially fight over in the near future which should be highly intriguing.
The division in general is overgoing a positive overhaul at the moment. With Charlotte, Becky Lynch and now Kairi Sane out of action, new faces and angles are needed.
In the last few weeks alone, Nia Jax, Naomi and Bianca Belair have returned, as has Shayna Baszler who seems to be headed towards a face turn, Lacey Evans has gone the other way and tension is being teased between ‘besties’ Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross.
It certainly feels like a good moment in the division that has Sasha Banks and Bayley sitting astride it like a pair of catty colossus.
