It seems two night events are the hot fashion item for wrestling promotions in 2020.
First, New Japan Pro Wrestling spread Wrestle Kingdom over two nights at the start of the year.
Three months later, WWE’s altered plans resulted in them putting on a two night event at the WWE Performance Center in April.
Not to be outdone, it was announced last night on AEW Dynamite that this year’s Fyter Fest event will also be a two night affair.
What will be slightly different from the other two events is that FF will not take place over consecutive nights, it will instead take place on the nights of July 1st and 8th, both in the timeslot on TNT normally occupied by AEW Dynamite.
So in essence, rather than standalone events, they are in fact re-branded episodes of Dynamite akin to one of the myriad Raw and SmackDown specials over the years.
AEW have announced that all of their titles will be defended over the two weeks. So far we know only two matches that will take place for certain.
Jon Moxley will defend his AEW World Title against Brian Cage after the latter won the Casino Ladder Match in his debut match at Double Or Nothing.
At the same event, Best Friends secured their spots as number one contenders for the Tag Team Championship by defeating Private Party. They will receive that title shot at Fyter Fest against current champions Kenny Omega and Hangman Page.
Fyter Fest will be available in the UK on Fite.tv. It is fair to assume that it will be part of the monthly AEW pass.
