AEW knew they had their work cut out to drag attention from the first night of NXT TakeOver on the last night of the ‘Wednesday Night Wars’. With a stacked card and an announced appearance from Mike Tyson, they certainly didn’t plan to take the competition lying down.
In an action packed show, perhaps the most noteworthy news was the announcement that the Blood And Guts match will finally be coming to AEW after a year long delay when The Inner Circle will face The Pinnacle on the May 5th episode of Dynamite.
The match was originally supposed to take place approximately one year ago. Jericho’s group were due to face The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, Hangman Page and Matt Hardy until the COVID-19 pandemic took hold and forced them to change plans. The match eventually morphed into the wonderful Stadium Stampede cinematic match at the Double Or Nothing PPV.
Blood & Guts is slated to be AEW’s version of War Games and this first outing will pit Jericho, Jake Hager, Sami Guevara, Santana and Ortiz against MJF, Wardlow, FTR and Shawn Spears. The match came about when Jericho cut a phenomenal promo on the IC’s rival faction to challenge them to a five on five match.
If this match is anything to go by, fears that lack of head to head competition would lead to AEW easing off on the huge matches on Dynamite is completely unfounded.
