Five Potential Opponents For Deonna Purrazzo At Impact Wrestling Slammiversary 2021

Who will be the mystery opponent for ‘The Virtuosa’ Deonna Purrazzo at Slammiversary? Here are some educated guesses from our Impact feature writer.

Deonna Purrazzo

At Slammiversary this Saturday the Knockouts Champion, Deonna Purrazzo will defend her title against a mystery opponent.

The Virtuosa has recently fallen out with her former lackeys Kimber Lee and Susan, easily dispatching both in singles matches in recent weeks. This has left few on the roster Purrazzo hasn’t defeated as she pursues her goal of becoming the longest-reigning Knockouts Champion.

Last week on Impact, Purrazzo issued an open challenge and, after making newcomer Lady Frost submit in under three minutes, took to the mic to claim that she can beat anyone and doesn’t even need to know who her opponent is.

This sparked the Impact Hall of Famer and seven-time Knockouts Champion Gail Kim to come down to the ring to let Purrazzo know that if she thinks she can beat her opponent without even knowing who they there are in advance, then she will have to wait till Slammiversary to find out who she will have to defend her title against.

With that in mind let’s look at a list of five potential opponents for Purrazzo at Slammiversary.

No. 5 – Britt Baker

The working relationship between Impact Wrestling and AEW has led to some memorable moments such as the reunion of the Bullet Club, Kenny Omega’s Impact World title reign and Sami Callihan invading Daily’s Place. Yet the partnership between the promotions seems to have bypassed the Women’s division on both rosters. Could Slammiversary be the night that all changes?

Fans online have been clamouring to see Baker and Purrazzo square off since the two promotions began working together. Baker fanned the flames of a potential match up when the AEW Women’s Champion took to Twitter and shared fan art of herself standing beside the Impact Knockouts Champion while they held their respective championships.

No. 4 – Chelsea Green

Yes, I know Green has just debuted with Ring of Honor at Best in the World 2021, however that doesn’t mean she won’t appear in Impact also. Green stated on her podcast ‘Green with Envy’ that she is still a free agent and wants to work for as many different companies as possible.

Many have been speculating that Green would pop up in Impact since her WWE release. Green has previously worked for the promotion as Laurel Van Ness, Green’s fiancé Matt Cardona already works for Impact and her real-life best friend is the Impact Knockouts Champion, Deonna Purrazzo.

No. 3 – Ruby Riott / Peyton Royce / Billie Kay

Okay, so this entry isn’t exclusive to the names listed above. Last year Impact created a lot of buzz among wrestling fans by teasing that several recently released former WWE superstars would appear at Slammiversary and they are attempting to replicate that success using the tagline ‘Our World Changes Again at Slammiversary’.

There are issues regarding the 90-day no-compete clauses, however as some wrestlers such as Chelsea Green have already proven, WWE are open to dropping that clause in certain circumstances.

No. 2 – Taylor Wilde

Taylor Wilde first debuted with Impact Wrestling more than a decade ago back in 2008, and in her original run with the company was able to capture the Knockouts title and became one-half of the inaugural Knockouts tag team champions. Wilde left Impact in 2010 and retired from wrestling the following year.

That was until 2021 when Wilde made her return to Impact and defeated Kimber Lee in her first match in more than 10 years. Wilde said on multiple occasions she returned to Impact to capture the Knockouts title once again and rejected approaches by Tenille Dashwood to form a team to go after the tag titles. Wilde has had a brief hiatus from Impact due to personal reasons, leaving before she got her shot at the Knockouts title.

No. 1 – Su Yung

Maybe no wrestler has mastered the multiple personalities gimmick as well as Su Yung has since Mick Foley. Whether it is Su Yung, Susie or Susan, each character has their own personality and wrestling style.

Purrazzo’s current reign as Champion began last year when she took the belt from Su Yung at Turning Point. Two weeks later Yung was set up and taken out by Father James Mitchell and Purrazzo before being carried out by the undead bridesmaids. Su Yung has not been seen since.
